10 Period Hacks I Absolutely Couldn’t Live Without

*Disclaimer: Sorry to all the What a Gorgeous Day dudes, but this one is for my ladies…feel free to read this post though, so you know how to treat the ladies in your life when their time comes.

Hey Girls! So if you’ve made it this far, you probably already know about the monster that attacks all of us during our time of the month. Ah yes…shark week. That beautiful time where you’re practically dying of pain and disgust.

Trust me, I hate my period as much as the next girl, but it doesn’t have to be all bad. I’ve picked out my top 10 Period Hacks, that I absolutely couldn’t live without, just to make your time of the month that much easier! Let’s get to it.

1. Drink Tea

Okay guys, so you probably already know that I absolutely LOVE tea anyways, but I also absolutely LOVE coffee, and most of all I LOVE caffeine, but here’s the thing: Caffeine can actually make your cramps worse. So when on my period I like to drink lots of Chai and Peppermint tea, which helps relieve cramps and keeps me from getting more.

2. Use Cold Water to Wash Out Stains

Let’s be honest girls: It happens to the best of us. But don’t worry, you’re clothes don’t have to have that permanent stain forever reminding you of your mistakes. Next time, instead of rinsing out your pants or underwear with warm water, rinse them out with cold. Warm water makes the blood set in even further into the fabric…gross!

3. Buy an Electric Blanket

This. One. Is. Literally. The. Best. Okay, so I know electric blankets can seem pretty expensive, but its definitely worth the investment. Now, whenever the cramps kick in, you have a huge warm hug to wrap yourself up in. Best. Feeling. Ever.

4. Work Out More Than Usual

Okay, so what’s worse than having to suffer three days of blood flowing from you? I’ll tell you what is: Having to suffer longer than that. Basically, the more active you are before and during your period, the faster it should go. So go on a run, or swim, or even just for a walk. It won’t kill you. Bonus: It’ll boost your adrenaline, and make you naturally happier.

5. Eat Lots of Chocolate and Bananas

Okay guys so chocolate and bananas…honestly one of my favorite combinations ever to be created, and guess what? They can actually help you reduce your cramps! And you don’t have to worry about the extra calories because studies have shown that you actually need more sugars when on your period!

6. Use Lavender Oil to Reduce Inflammation And Relax Yourself

So I didn’t know this before, but lavender oil actually is great for relaxing you and reducing inflammation. So if you’re having trouble sleeping, just put a few drops on your pillow. Also, if you tend to feel bloated during your period, rub a few in the spots where you tend to get the most bloated. It’ll reduce the bloating, and make you smell AMAZING in the process.

7. Use Tea Tree Oil to Reduce “Period Acne”

Did you know that Tea Tree Oil is a natural acne curer? Dab Tea Tree Oil on your most prominent acne spots to get rid of the hormonal acne in the quickest, healthiest way possible. I myself have struggling with acne for several years, so this one was SUPER helpful for me.

8. Sneak Turmeric Into Your Food to Reduce Bloating

This is one that I actually learned from my mom! Basically Turmeric helps with both inflammation and bloating, and it has hardly any taste. So be sure to sneak it into all of your food to feel 100X better.

9. Make Sure You’re Hydrated

I’m sure you’ve heard this plenty of times before, but when on your period make sure you’re drinking PLENTY of water and staying hydrated. Not only will it keep you glowing, but you’ll feel SO much better.

10. Keep an Extra Pair of Pants and Underwear in Your Backpack/Purse Just in Case

Have you ever had your period start during school or work? Yeah me too girlfriend. NEVER AGAIN. I ALWAYS keep extra pads and tampons in my backpack and purse, but after the first time I decided to take it to the next level and make sure to ALWAYS keep an extra pair of pants and underwear with me at ALL times. Because even though I tell myself it’s not going to happen, it always could and there’s no problem with being safe.

Okay guys, so that wraps up my 10 Period Hacks post! Which one of these do you think you might try? What’s a period hack you have? Let me know in the comments below. I’d LOVE to hear them!

Lots of Love,

  1. I tried working out once during my period I passed out, because I have super painful periods and my doctor recommended to not move at all if I can. Who doesn’t have painful and intense periods can work out definitely, because your period will go away faster but for girls who struggle better wait for natural process to go away. xx

    1. Thanks so much for pointing this out! I totally get that, and although my period isn’t painful at all, some girls get really horrible cramps, and then it’s better to just stay home with your electric blanket and some tea! ❤️❤️

  2. Whoo- hoo!
I liked that chocolate tip though I knew the banana one earlier too. Hahaa. You know I really like the hacks. I otherwise also keep on searching them on YouTube. Wearing darker pants is a better option.

  3. Great post, Noel! These are super helpful. I actually try to rest as much as possible because it just increases the pain whenever I exert myself during that time, and honestly, chocolate is a girl’s best friend.

Even though its a little embarrassing to read a post like this, I’m actually happy when someone does write one because its a reminder that I’m not the ONLY one that has to go through it! 😀
