4 Easy DIY Notebooks for Back to School!

*Disclaimer: You don’t have to be in school to make these notebooks…they’re just that adorable!

Hey guys! I’m gonna be incredibly honest with you: I am SO excited to go back to school. Yes, I hate the countless hours in the classroom, the drama, and the EXTREME work load, but I LOVE learning and keeping myself busy. Of course, it’s also easy to be excited about the new school month, when you have the CUTEST notebooks EVER!

Now if you are anything like me, your mom buys you the basic black composition books, and the simple spiral notebooks. Relateable? Well I’m about to show you 4 easy DIY notebook covers, so you can have the cutest notebooks in the classroom. Are you ready? Let’s get to it!

Constellation Notebook

What You Need:

2 Sheets Black Card-stock

1 Spiral or Composition Notebook

A Silver or Gold Gel Pen or Paint Pen

Black Sharpie

How to Make It:

  1. First you’re going to measure out your card-stock to fit the notebook! Simply put the card stock underneath the cover of the book, and trace around the edges of the cover.
  2. Next, draw random stars inside rectangle you made when you sized the paper accordingly. I also connected some of my stars with simple lines to make it look like they were forming constellations. Another thing that is optional is you can draw a few moons or planets as well!
  3. Thirdly cut around the rectangle you made when you sized the paper. After that put glue your paper onto the notebook! Make sure to put plenty of glue around the edges so that they don’t come off. I suggest using mod-poge or Elmer’s glue.
  4. Now in the center of the notebook draw two rectangles, one inside of the other, with enough space to write your subject in it! For example I wrote biology, but you can also write “Notes” or “English”. Really just write whatever subject you will be using the notebook for.
  5. Lastly, take your sharpie and color around the spine of the notebook so it looks like the whole book is black. You’re done and it looks AMAZING!

Encouragement Word Cloud Notebook

What You Need:

Sharpies of Assorted Colors (I used black, pink, grey, and turquoise)

Pencil

A Sheet of Card-stock (I used mint green)

Words/ Quotes that Describe/Inspire You

 How to Make It:

  1. First, using the same technique as the first notebook, trace out your paper to the size of your notebook cover using your pencil.
  2. Next, using your pencil, write out all your words/quotes that describe/inspire you in a word cloud form ,which means they can be big, or small, sideways, upside down, or facing up, in random form. On mine I also sketched out some cute drawings around my words. Be creative with this!
  3. Now you’re going to take your sharpie and trace around the words you wrote out in pencil. On some of the words I used pink and turquoise, but with most of them I used grey and black.
  4. Finally, cut around the line that you traced in step one, and glue your paper to your composition notebook, making sure to put plenty of glue around the edges. You’re done and it looks AMAZING! Now you can be inspired and encouraged everyday during the school year, and look good while you do it!

The Quote Notebook

 What you Need:

1 Piece of Card-stock

Sharpies/Markers in the Colors of Your Choice

Your Favorite Quote

Pencil

How to Make It:

  1. Start with tracing out your paper to the size of the cover, by placing the paper underneath the cover and tracing around the edge of the cover. Cut around lines.
  2. Secondly, trace out your quote in the font of your choice with your pencil. I chose the quote “Be a Fruit-loop in a World of Cheerios” but you can do anything you want!
  3. Next, go over the quote which you wrote in pencil, with your sharpies. I chose to use LOTS of colors, because Fruit-loops are colorful, but you do you!
  4. Lastly, I glued on the paper to the notebook using Elmer’s glue, but you can also use mod-podge if you want! Now you’ve got an awesome notebook to encourage you every time you use it.

The Painted Notebook

What You Need:

Newspaper to Protect You Work Space

Spiral Notebook

Acrylic Paint in the Colors of Your Choice (I chose to mix red and white for pink)

Paintbrushes

Cup with Water in It

  1. First you need to put your newspaper down of your work space surface to protect it.
  2. Next you will want to start by squirting the paint directly onto the front cover of the notebook, and then spreading it around with your paintbrush. I started with my red, spread it out, and then added on the white to create what I like to call the “Streak” effect.DSCF2518
  3. Leave it to dry for about 15 Minutes, and add more paint if needed.
  4. Now it should be done, but I chose to take a black sharpie, and in the middle of the notebook to write “Notes” just to add an extra touch. Feel free to add really whatever you want here. There you go! Your notebook is ready to be used.

Okay guys! We’re finally here. I think I lied earlier, I’m not ready to go back to school, but at least I can look forward to using my ADORABLE notebooks! Do you ever get that excited feeling when you get a new notebook? Which one of these do you think you’d want to try? Let me know in the comments below.
