I’m just gonna be honest here: the past few months have been tough for me. Like really tough. Like “I-feel-like-my-whole-life-is-falling-apart” tough. And I know you’re probably asking yourself the great big gigantic question of “WHY?”. Well don’t worry because the entire reason of this post is to explain the “WHY’s” and the “HOW’s”. Hopefully it will help you all as well, because that’s the entire mission of this blog: to help you all be the best you can! Don’t worry because I’m growing as well, and here is a place where we only accept honesty. Ready to learn how to say “Goodbye” easily?
I used to live in the beautiful, amazing city of Lawrence, Kansas. Almost all of my friends live there. My church there was strong in the Lord, and I had an amazing swim team that helped me extend beyond my own goals. I had moved there from California two years prior, and it was finally starting to feel like home. That’s when my dad’s work decided to take a turn, bringing him and the rest of my family along with him down to the great big state of Texas. So here I am right now sitting in a hotel room telling you all about saying goodbyes.
Now get this right, this isn’t the first time I’ve moved, and it definitely won’t be the last. I am very experienced at saying goodbyes. I’ve moved seven times. SEVEN. Each time in a new state. Each time I’ve made a lot of good friends who made my life a whole lot brighter. But enough of this pity party, are you ready to find out how I do it?
1. Cry a Lot
I mean a lot. I mean bawl your eyes out and let all the emotions come out and then some more. You’re saying goodbye, and it’s okay to be sad about that fact. You’re going to miss that beautiful human being you called your friend, so you might as well accept that now.

2. Spend One on One Time With That Person(s)
Before I left I spent some one on one time with each of my friends. I was sure to give them all enough time with me and me alone, and all of them knew about it. We went out to coffee, ice cream, lunch…(seeing a trend here? I love food and people. Don’t judge. haha)…we got real with each other. We cried, we laughed, we told stories, we prayed, and we gave each other hugs, which brings me to step #3.
3. Give Lots and Lots of Hugs
I don’t know about you, and maybe most normal people aren’t like this, but I love, love, love, love, love hugs. Maybe I need to add another love? I think you get the picture. Any spare moment I get I give people hugs. During happy moments, sad moments, and especially right before I say goodbye, I give hugs. And that’s normally. Now transfer that into a situation where I’m getting ready to say goodbye, and I think you guys know what’s coming. Are hug parties a thing, because they should be. ‘Nuff said.

4. Write a Goodbye Letter
This brings me to our first giveaway! YAY! I’m horrible with actual spoken words, and it’s so much easier for me to express myself through writing. (can you take this as example a?) So before I say goodbye, I thank people for their friendship, and tell them everything I love about them as a human being, and most importantly invite them to come visit me whenever they want to, without saying it to them in person and becoming an emotional mess. Want to write your own? Say what you want to say on these free printable Goodbye Cards.
5. Say the Dreaded Words
Nooooooo……Okay just going to be honest doing all these things makes it so much easier, and harder at the same time. You walk up to the person, with tears already in your eyes, give them the biggest hug in the history of the universe, hand them your goodbye letter and you say something along the lines of “Gracie, I love you so much and I’m don’t know how I’m going to live without you! Goodbye…” And you do it with everyone in the room, and then you turn around walk a few steps, look back at them and wave, and walk away.
Okay, just going to start this off with being honest, I’m crying reading this because it’s like reliving the sadness. Turns out, there really is no “easy” way to say goodbye, but maybe its supposed to be that way. I mean, if saying goodbye is hard it means that you really love the person, which is a good thing.
